Virginia Wants More Hunters For Deer Season

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries says it's trying to lure former hunters back to the deer woods.

The agency says it's started sending postcards to former hunting license holders. The message encourages them to return to the sport and to share the experience with others.

The recruitment drive comes as Virginia's main deer season approaches. The gun season is scheduled to open Saturday.

While hunters kill about 250,000 deer a year in Virginia, the Game and Inland Fisheries Department says it needs hunters to keep the 1 million-strong population in check.

Fimian Concedes to Connolly

WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Republican congressional candidate Keith Fimian has announced he concedes to Democratic Congressman Gerry Connolly for Virginia's 11th congressional district.

In a news release Fimian said, "After much discussion with friends and supporters, I have decided not to pursue a recount and not to further investigate possible discrepancies in the election results. Therefore I congratulate Congressman Connolly on his victory and send him good wishes as he moves forward to do the people's business. For me, today is the end of this campaign."

Fimian has been locked in a tight race with one-term democratic incumbent Rep. Gerry Connolly. Connolly won with just 921 votes or a .4-percent lead; which, meant Fimian could ask for a re-count.

However, Fimian also left the door slightly ajar.
