Fimian Concedes To Connolly In Tight Race

ANNANDALE, Va.  (WUSA) - Republican Keith Fimian congratulated Congressman Gerry Connolly in a statement saying he's decided not to pursue a recount in Virginia's 11th District race.

The congressman was re-elected by only 981 votes, or about .4%.

"I had blockage in an artery and was causing me some discomfort," said Congressman Gerry Connolly who spent last weekend in the hospital after a routine test which found a blood clot. He told reporters he's fine and wanted to focus on his win, not on the slim margin.

"There were four competitive races in Virginia. Only one was left standing. You're looking at him," he said.

He called the election the most toxic for democrats in 64 years and said he rejected the questions about why he almost lost the race to how he pulled it off in such a climate.

Ossian Hall Park to Open After Extensive Renovations

From Fairfax County Park Authority:

Ossian Hall Park, a 22-acre community park in the Braddock District, has been transformed. No longer is the park a place where people were afraid to venture after dark or hesitant to spend time because of old playground equipment, thick, view-obscuring woods, and inaccessible trails. After two construction phases, the addition of new recreational amenities, including a paved plaza area and synthetic turn field, and millions of dollars, the park is welcoming and ready for the public. Officials will gather with members of the community at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2010, to officially cut the ribbon and celebrate completion of this community project. Ossian Hall Park is located at 7900 Heritage Drive in Annandale, VA.

Canvassing Complete In Tight 11th District Race

FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA) -- The counting of provisional ballots in the 11th Congressional district is over and incumbent Rep. Gerry Connolly's lead over Keith Fimian has grown as a result in the race for a seat in Congress.

The count is 111,630 for Connolly and 110,700 for Fimian.

Fimian's supporters are not ready to concede yet.

"We'll look at the incident reports, the malfunctioning machines. I don't think anybody is saying fraud. I think he'll (Fimian) will make a decision in the next 12 or 24 hours," Fairfax County Republican spokesperson Anthony Bedell said.

Fimian has the right to ask for all the ballots to be recounted. If that happens, we may not know the official winner of the race until mid to late December.
