Dr. My Tran, a native of Annandale, Va., is now practicing dentistry at Gainesville Pediatric Dentistry in Gainesville, Va.

Dr. Tran completed her residency at the New York University College of Dentistry where she was the chief resident of pediatric dentistry.   While in residency, Dr. Tran spent time at the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiners working on her research and training medical examiners on a new dental forensic protocol. This training provided her the opportunity to work on a 5,000- year-old mummy tooth.

She produced research entitled “DNA Isolation from Forensic Dental Specimens,” which won an award for Outstanding Research during the Research Day Competition at New York University.  In addition, it was presented at the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry 2010 meeting and will be presented at the American Academy of Forensic Science later this year.

She earned her degree in dentistry from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry with honors.  She was active in several programs, including Mission of Mercy, Give Kids a Smile, Special Olympics and Habitat for Humanity.

Dr. Tran is committed to serving underserved communities throughout the areas, like southwest Virginia and as far as the Indian Health Services in Alaska and the Jamaica Project.
