Gucci Celebrates Opening of New Store at Tysons Galleria with Private Party Hosted by John Legend

November 10, 2010 Gucci will celebrate the opening of its new store at Tysons Galleria with a private cocktail party this evening hosted by music artist John Legend. The 4,770 square foot space boasts a brand new design conceived by Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini. The store opening event will benefit Legend’s Show Me Campaign with a ten percent contribution of the evening’s sales towards the nonprofit organization.

Giannini’s innovative store design concept, which employs open space, warm luxurious materials and natural light to spectacular effect, is a departure from traditional codified fashion retail spaces, and paves the way for Gucci’s 21st century contemporary look. Signature Gucci materials of rosewood and marble are enhanced with the introduction of new elements such as ribbed glass, warm polished gold, smoked mirror and smoked bronze glass, recalling the elegance and richness of the Art Deco era.  Geometric lines, including stylized examples of Gucci’s signature web striping, define the internal space by adding further symbolic detailing.  The new store radiates a true atmosphere of luxury, showcasing a wide collection of men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes, jewelry and accessories.

“I wanted to amplify the luxuriousness of the Gucci store environments and to create an aesthetic, which is complementary to the vision of the House today,” explains Giannini.  “This design concept is a modern architectural statement that references the iconic Gucci materials and elements of stores from the past. Everything was carefully chosen to make the design stand out while highlighting the collections in the strongest possible way.”

As part of Gucci’s ongoing commitment to philanthropic organizations, the company is pleased to partner with the Show Me Campaign.  Started by Legend and taking inspiration from his song “Show Me”, the campaign strives to break the cycle of poverty by fighting for equal access to quality education in the United States.  Across the country many students are forced to attend failing schools and sacrifice a proper education, which has proven to be the greatest tool at breaking the cycle of poverty. By focusing on education reform, the Show Me Campaign seeks to provide solutions that have been proven to improve people’s lives and to give them the opportunities to survive, thrive and succeed.

Gucci, founded in Florence in 1921, Gucci is one of the world's leading luxury fashion brands. With a renowned reputation for quality and Italian craftsmanship, Gucci designs, manufactures and distributes highly desirable products such as leather goods (handbags, small leather goods, and luggage), shoes, ready-to-wear, silks, timepieces and fine jewelry. Eyewear and fragrances are manufactured and distributed under license by global industry leaders in these two sectors. Gucci products are sold exclusively through a network of directly operated boutiques (308 as of September 2010) and a small number of selected department and specialty stores.
