Neighborhood leaders share success stories

Neighborhood leaders share success stories

Several of the outstanding neighborhood projects profiled Feb. 9 at a forum of the Braddock District Council of Community Associations could easily be adopted by community groups in Annandale. After all, we are all dealing with similar issues—such as the need to maintain common areas and recruit more volunteers.

The presenters at the forum, at Kings Park Library, developed their projects after taking part in Fairfax County Supervisor John Cook’s Neighborhood College for civic and homeowner association leaders. They came away from those sessions inspired to improve their communities.

Greater Springfield Chamber Hosts Book Drive to Benefit Area Children

The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce Community Affairs Committee will host a Children’s Book Drive February 2 through April 21.  Children’s books, for readers up to grade 5, will be collected at Chamber events and at area businesses for distribution to local elementary age students this spring.

“Every child should have books they call their own,” reminds Karen Brown, coordinator of the Chamber’s Book Drive.  “I know our business community is ready to help.”

New and gently-used children’s books may be dropped off at participating locations through April 21.  Chamber volunteers will pick-up collected books as donation boxes fill and prepare them for distribution to young residents in the Greater Springfield community.  Book Drive hosts include:
