Don’t Miss The Fun of Groundhog Day

Don’t Miss The Fun of Groundhog Day

From Fairfax County Park Authority:

Groundhog Day is almost upon us.  According to folklore, if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day, it will leave the burrow, signifying that winter will soon end. If on the other hand, it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly "see its shadow" and retreat back into its burrow, and winter will continue for six more weeks.

Family Volunteer Day to Attract Over 450 Participants

From Volunteer Fairfax:

On Monday, January 17, Volunteer Fairfax is calling all families with elementary school aged children to participate on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Projects are most appropriate to children in this age group, but can be completed by younger children with adult supervision. Families will be completing six volunteer projects in one location. Over 450 residents are expected to participate in the event.

Volunteer Fairfax and George Mason University are proud to present the second annual Give Together: A Family Volunteer Day. Families from across the county will have the opportunity to come together and volunteer for multiple nonprofit agencies at one central location. Service projects will benefit populations served by FACETS, Fairfax 4-H, Herndon Senior Center, Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (JCC), Operation Military Kids and Orphan Foundation of America.
