Tire Safety Demonstration in Fairfax County: See What Happens When Your Tires Are Gasping For Air!

From Lyon's PR:

A new tire industry survey shows that 85% of U.S. drivers do not know how to properly check their tire pressure.  And without knowing these simple steps, it’s costing them money at the gas pump and putting safety at risk.

With summer travelers about to hit the road and facing fuel prices pushing near record highs, there’s no better time to learn the simple and easy tire care tips to save money and help stay safe on the road.

The Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and AAA are teaming up in time for National Tire Safety Week (June 5-11) to help educate drivers about tire care.  With the help of Fairfax County police driving instructors, you will be able to see how under inflated tires can affect vehicle handling, potentially putting drivers at risk of a crash.

WHAT:              Tire Safety Press Conference and Vehicle Demonstration:  RMA, NHTSA and AAA will host a short press conference to announce consumer survey data, experiences with roadside assistance and explain basic tire care tips that every motorist should know.

WHEN:             Thursday, June 2, 2011, 10:30 a.m. – Noon.  Press conference starts at 10:30 a.m.  Vehicle demonstration to follow immediately after press conference.  Vehicle demonstrations will include serpentine and emergency avoidance/braking maneuvers using vehicles with properly inflated and under inflated tires.

RMA’s “Be Tire Smart – Play Your PART” program seeks to educate motorists about the importance of proper tire care and promote a safer driving experience.  RMA sponsors National Tire Safety Week and works in partnership with tire retailers, AAA, auto dealers, state and federal highway safety officials and many others to provide tire care information to consumers. RMA is the national trade association for tire manufacturers in the U.S. and is located in Washington, DC.
