Man charged with murder in possible electrocution dies

ANNANDALE, Va. (WUSA9) -- A 73-year-old man charged with the murder of a woman he may have had a relationship with died Saturday morning from apparently self-inflicted wounds he received after allegedly killing the woman, Fairfax County police said.

Police had charged Jai Hyun Cho with the murder 56-year-old Kum Yeon of Alexandria in the basement of his home, possibly by means of electrocution, but withdrew the warrant after his death.

On December 21, officers arrived at Cho's home on Pennys Town Court in Annandale and found Yeon collapsed in the basement and naked next to him, according to court documents.

Korean-Americans denounce ICE raids

ANNANDALE, Va. (WUSA9) -- Korean-American groups in the D.C. area are backing Latino organizations in denouncing the increase in police raids on illegal immigrants.

Immigration advocates say some of those immigrants should be classified as 'refugees' fleeing their home country of drugs and violence in Central America.

There's been a recent surge in deportation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the U.S. since the holidays, striking fear in communities where there are a number of undocumented residents. More than 120 people have been taken into custody to be deported since the beginning of the year.

Va. man pleads guilty to sex trafficking a 15-year-old

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- An Annandale man pleaded guilty Tuesday to sex trafficking of a minor, according to a news release sent out Wednesday.

Ismael Antonio Mendez, 20, faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years and a maximum penalty of life in prison.

According to court documents, Mendez and two other adult co-conspirators recruited a 15-year-old girl to engage in commercial sex acts to pay off a debt that Mendez owed to one of the co-conspirators.

The adults taught the girl how to prostitute, took photos of her to use in advertisements, and created advertisements for commercial sex that were posted on the Internet. Court documents state that three adults knew how old the girl was and instructed her to lie to customers.

Family of organ donor meets those she saved

ANNANDALE, Va. (WUSA9) -- In the D.C. metropolitan area, there are about 2,100 people waiting for an organ transplant. On average, three of those people die each week because there are not enough organs to go around.

Despite those startling statistics, many people are thriving thanks to the generosity of organ donors like Stacie Farmer.

Stacie died in 2010 after she was hit by a car while riding her bike in West Virginia. Her sister, Lisa Farmer, remembers Stacie talking about donating her organs if she ever passed away.

Even if the thought of doing so seemed impossible.

“[I said] Stacie that's not going to happen. We will grow old together and have babies at the same time," Lisa Farmer said.

Fighting back tears, Stacie's mother and sister met three of Stacie's organ donation recipients Monday.
