Tysons Connector to Cease Operations Dec. 30

From Virginia MegaProjects:

ALEXANDRIA — The Tysons Connector - the free midday shuttle bus service in Tysons Corner - will operate for two more weeks with its last day of service Dec. 30, 2010.  After one year of operation, ridership was not sufficient to meet minimum goals needed to viably continue the service.

Tysons Connector began in November 2009 to serve area businesses, residents, shoppers and visitors within Tysons Corner.  The service was launched to provide travel options within Tysons during construction of the Dulles Metrorail project as part of the project's comprehensive transportation management plan.

Until Dec. 30, Tysons Connector will continue to operate at 10-minute intervals between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday within Tysons Corner.

After Dec. 30, those riders who use the Tysons Connector may be able to get around Tysons Corner by using the following routes:

Ahhh….the holiday season is upon us again, replete with its many joys: rosy-cheeked, smiling children, twinkling lights, the smell of baking cookies, the opportunity to dress your dog like a reindeer and tell all your friends that “he really likes it.” But it also carries just a wee bit of stress. There’s the baking of said cookies, hanging the pretty lights, travel plans, menus, and, of course, shopping. Lots and lots of shopping.

Reminder: Detours Set for Thursday and Friday Nights

From the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project:

Interstate I-66 westbound at the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) will be closed overnights Thursday, Nov. 11 and Friday, Nov. 12, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. because of Dulles Metrorail construction.

When I-66 westbound lanes close, thru traffic will be detoured on to the Dulles Connector Road west bound, to Route 123 south toward Tysons Corner, to a right turn to the ramp to the Capital Beltway south toward Richmond. Drivers can then rejoin I-66 from the Beltway. For local traffic, drivers have options to exit I?66 prior to the closing.
