MONZA Gives Away $3,800 in Gift Cards; Collects 152 Coats for SERVE

“Our holiday coat drive was a great success due to the generous support of the Manassas community,” said Miguel Pires, general manager of Monza of Old Town Manassas, Va. “SERVE does so much for those in need, it’s our honor to help them with their programs,” said Pires.

Molotov cocktail engulfs van in Va.

ANNANDALE, Va. (WUSA9) -- Fairfax County officials say a Molotov cocktail was the cause of a car fire in a residential neighborhood.

At approximately 1:35 a.m., fire and rescue officials were called to the 9200 block of 9202 Ashmeade Drive in West Annandale, according to officials.

Firefighters encountered a fully involved Honda Odyssey van on fire in a driveway upon arrival. 

There was minor damage to the nearby garage; however the house was cleared to be reoccupied, officials say.

Neighbors discovered the blaze and called 911. There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at $8,000.

Car hits pole in Annandale

ANNANDALE, Va. (WUSA9) -- Fairfax County authorities say there are no serious injuries after a car hit a pole in Annandale.

The accident happened along Ravensworth Road and Kalorma Road on Thursday morning.

Crews are on the scene repairing damage. 

Ravensworth Road is blocked each way at Braddock Road for the repairs.

 

Man injured in Va. art gallery fire

ANNANDALE, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man was injured after a fire at an art gallery on Thursday morning in the Annandale area of Fairfax County.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department crews responded to the at approximately 9:50 a.m. at 7261 Maple Place. Officials say firefighters "encountered smoke and fire in a house that had been renovated several times, to include a business with residential units on the top and bottom floors."

Officials say firefighters found fire on the first floor and were able to bring the fire under control in minutes.

One man was transported to Washington Hospital Center for a non-life threatening injury, say officials.

Many paintings were also damaged, according to officials.

Officials tell us a fan in the stove hood system malfunctioned and sparked the fire.

Colder weather has set in and that means people are turning up their thermostats and seeing higher utility bills.  The City of Manassas’ Operation Round Up is in full force, where customers that authorize the City of Manassas to "round up" their monthly electric bill to the next higher dollar. If the bill is $73.80, it is rounded up to $74 and the extra 20 cents is contributed to the Operation Round Up® fund.  Single donations from customers are also accepted, simply by adding the additional dollars to their payment with a notice that the overpayment is for Operation Round Up.
